quarantine and create 2nd place: Rebecca Cofie
Updated: Sep 24, 2020

what is quarantine and create?
Near the beginning of lockdown, BLACKONBLACK launched QUARANTINE AND CREATE, a workbook full of challenges across a wide range of creative disciplines with the aim of not only providing an outlet for creatives' anxiety or frustration, but also a way to create small funding opportunities for our community.
As a human-focused agency, we are committed to supporting creatives of colour. Nobody could have predicted the current Covid-19 situation and we are aware (and experiencing ourselves as a self-funded project) of the real impact of the disease on the opportunities for creatives as well as the financial burden.
We initially planned to give out 3 financial prizes but due to the quality of the work we extended this to 4!
The money will support these creatives, some of whom have been made unemployed, with their groceries, bills or other essentials you may need in this time.
p.s. you can still purchase the workbook to keep you occupied in this last leg of lockdown, all money made will go towards the Belly Mujinga Fund, learn more here.

Rebecca Cofie is a recent graduated of the University of Surrey where she
studied a unique course called Liberal Arts and Sciences which allowed her to combine
Business, Media, Spanish and Sociology modules. Although she has an academic side, before
university she had a strong desire to pursue her creative interests - to have a break from
everything and do the things I have always wanted to do.
Taking a gap year to fulfil this desire where she interned in the fashion industry, travelled with a blogger, went to New York to attend the Teen Vogue Fashion University and loads of other cool things. This led her to start SUBCULTURED at university, a publication and community that allows students to express
their creative interests in fashion, photography, writing, design and more whilst studying for
their degree.
Since graduating, she has been working as a Graphic Designer, but recent circumstances have led her to try other things out and follow what she's drawn to. "I’ve always had a big interest in music, and this was further spurred by a dance music night at my university which opened my eyes to DJing. I finally bought some decks the other month and I’m excited to share my first curated mix. Enjoy !"
